John Mark Karr Creating Waves in Thailand PoliticsSeptember 01, 2006 We all know that John Mark Karr was in Bangkok at the time of his arrest in the Jon Benet Ramsey murder and his mere presence has brought to surface pressing questions regarding the Thailand sex industry.
Karr's arrest is deservedly bringing this fact national attention. Very few people realize that the Thailand government has proclaimed prostitution to be illegal but it is seldom if ever enforced. Why enforce it when it boosts tourism? The United States and other European countries have actually made it illegal to travel to a foreign country for the sole purpose of having pleasure. And are pressuring countries like Thailand to get their acts together. Once widely available in every rural part of the USA, Thailand brothels are now only really legitimized in a few areas like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket. And they operate under the fictitious name of "Massage Parlors". But the Thailand government is not doing enough to police the issue. They need to start cracking down on tourists that travel only for pleasure. They need to crack down on the child predators that prey on their children. And most importantly, they need to bring respect back to the country. In the upcoming years, Thailand politicians will be facing very important questions or else watch this get out of hand.
