Talking too Low of OneselfRemaining humble and honest is an important part of online dating, since most folks don't like overbearing braggarts who talk only about their accomplishments. However, it is possible to talk too low about yourself. And doing so can turn off potential online dates. Chances are you already know most of your bad traits. Maybe you procrastinate at work and leave projects until the last minute. Perhaps you're a slob, often leaving dirty clothes on the floor or dirty dishes in the sink. Or maybe your job isn't perfect, your grasp of technology is limited or you dislike children. Even if all those things are true, your first couple communications with a potential online date does not need to include all the tiny details of your negative traits. If you feel you must mention them, keep the conversation light and fun. Don't dwell on your bad points or list them one after another, because if you dwell on your negative traits, so will the person with whom you are chatting. Instead, remember to strike a balance between your positive and negative traits. If this is difficult for you, promise yourself that you'll say one good thing about yourself for every negative thing you say. So, for example, if you mention that you're a slob, you must also mention that you’re the neighborhood basketball champion.
