Talking too Highly of OneselfIf you want to find an online date, it's important to honestly present yourself in a positive manner. Glossing over your negative traits and focusing on your good points, is likely to generate the most interest from prospective partners. However, you should avoid talking too highly of yourself. Maybe you did win an award for the best speech at your Toastmasters meeting, and perhaps you were the star quarterback of your college football team. You may actually be the boss of your company or a decorated military veteran. It's possible you volunteer with troubled youth, clean cages at your local animal shelter and feed the homeless, all in the same day. Even if all those great things and more are true, it's generally considered bad form to list them all when you're looking for love online. Discussing all your accomplishments, civic activities and great personality traits--you're funny, honest, smart, and attractive, too--can seem like overkill, especially if it's one of the first times you're chatting with a potential date. Some folks may believe your boasting is a superficial way for you to try and appear attractive. Other people may believe you're overcompensating for one horrible trait. And others may simply think you're a braggart or a liar. Although telling your positive traits is always a good idea, be cautious of talking too highly of yourself. Instead, try to strike a balance between remarking on your good points while remaining humble and honest.
