Talking Bad About OneselfMany people like to show off their good side when they meet potential dates online. They only post flattering photos (taken ten years and twenty pounds earlier) and they only include fun and exciting interests in their profile. Often they describe their best attributes while glossing over the negatives. However, perhaps you're one of those people who believe that honesty is the best policy, and that openness is the only way to truly get to know someone else. Or perhaps you're so humble that discussing your good points is embarrassing. If so, it's important to remember that you should strike a balance between telling someone your positive traits and revealing your negative traits. Describing too many bad things about yourself--like bad habits, failed tasks, or a boring job--can quickly turn off a potential date. You may think you're being open and honest, but someone else is only going to hear the negatives. And who wants to date someone with only bad traits? It’s great that you're truthful, but trying being honest about your good points, too! So, as you describe yourself to potential online dates, remember to strike a balance between positive and negative traits. Make sure you share both the good and bad parts of your personality and lifestyle, and chances are you'll find someone that values your positive traits and your honesty.
