The original article said that single women over the age of 30 only had about a 20% chance of ever marrying, which is not a hopeful estimate by any means. Today however with lifestyles being a lot different, is there a big change in the statistics revolved around the “Marriage Crunch”? Studies say there is quite a difference indeed. Although the numbers have not be figured up since 1996, they were quite promising then. At that time, single women over the age of 40 had a little over 40% chance of marrying. Those numbers were quite good and expected. Women can deal with the fact that once they are over forty, there is 60% chance they won’t marry. However, it is difficult to think that in the 80s there was an 80% chance you wouldn’t be married after the age of 30. Today statistics are likely much higher, with more women remarrying later in life, or waiting later in life to marry for the first time. Men on the other hand are more likely to marry early and divorce and then remarry later in life. So, often times men are married quite a bit more than women of the same age. The estimates for women over 40 getting married are close to 50% experts believe, which is quite acceptable indeed. |
