When the article’s writer mentioned that women over 30 were “more likely to be killed by a terrorist” than be married after the age of 30, women all over cringed. Statistics show that the author of the article was incorrect with his assumptions. It seems that since the 80s, people are more likely than ever to marry over the age of 30. The likeliest groups of people that marry after the age of 30 are those that married young and divorced. The Baby Boomer generation seems to love the idea of being married so much that very few of them will end up single for a long period of time after divorcing. In fact, many Baby Boomers are all too happy to be in a marriage, whether they are really happy or not. In addition, many of the Baby Boomers married too early to really know what they wanted or needed from a spouse, so they often divorce. Although younger generations are waiting until their late 20s to marry for the first time, there are many people waiting until after the age of 30 to get married at all. Some of these people are in search of the perfect mate and don’t mind waiting even up until their 40s to get married for the first time. Therefore, with many people waiting until after the age of 30 to get married, it could be stated that the “Marriage Crunch” cannot be correct. |
