TOKYO — Masumi Okada, a veteran actor of the Japanese stage and screen, died of esophageal cancer early Monday morning at a Tokyo hospital, his office said. He was 70. Born to a Japanese father and a Danish mother in Nice, France, he debuted on stage in a musical in 1952 and two years later extended onto the big screen. He also appeared in a number of television dramas and variety shows.In June last year he was found to have cancer of the esophagus and underwent surgery. He restarted his career in entertainment but his condition deteriorated, according to the office.
