Yasuaki Kurata is one of the top Japanese martial artists to make an impact in Hong Kong films. Hailing from Japan, Kurata is a 6th-dan in karate and a 3rd-dan in jujitsu. He made his debut in the Shaw Brothers' classic King Boxer (also known as 5 Fingers of Death). Kurata has had constant on screen rivalries with two of the 70's top heroes, Bruce Leung and Chen Sing. In the 80's, Kurata worked on a bunch of films with Sammo Hung, even giving him a memorable sai vs. tennis racket fight in Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Stars. In 1989, Kurata produced and starred in Bloodfight. The interesting thing about this film is that the movie was shot entirely in English, even though it was a Japan-Hong Kong production. In 1994, Kurata gave Jet Li one of his best fights ever with their blindfold fight in Fist of Legend. Today, Kurata still acts and produces. In fact, in 2002, he was in a French action film called Samourais and the Hong Kong film So Close.
