Am I Really That Fussy?

I met a really sweet girl on Shaadi.com last year but as soon as we started talking, it was apparent that she was only really on Shaadi.com for fun. She had no interests in being married for 5 years and had no interest in developing a close romantic bond with me either. So friendship developed.

We became the best of email pals. I would always write her a long email before I went to bed and would await her long emails after I woke up. . I could not really go to my friends about my Shaadi.com because being non-Indian, they would not really understand what it is all about. The girl and I talked about everything so it was only inevitable for me to tell her about all my Shaadi.com activity. She calls me fussy far too often because I would come up with EVERY excuse to decline a girl. When finding your soulmate, isn't it important to be picky? Don't we owe it to ourselves to find the best love partner the Earth has to offer you?

Some people are picky based on looks and superficial things like money. I detest that. When two personalities match and complement each other, you can find affection and attraction with another individual despite looks. And when two people are smart, hard-working people then money is of no use to anybody. I focus on little minor details.

First off, I do not talk to a girl on the phone right away. It is bad news, here is why:

• If she gives me her number without really getting to know me, she is obviously talking to 15-20 other guys. I don't feel special in this case.
• People can be so fake on the phone.
• You lose sight on the important things that a relationship is supposed to be built on. On the phone you will talk about how much you miss each other and how much you love each other. What a crock of shit, do you really know each other?
• Emails are a classic way to determine how someone really feels. Because words are so absolute and can be edited, saying something wrong in an email is a classic sign of the wrong one.
• Maybe the girl/guy has a great profile and communicates well online. But maybe they are really truly in fact boring. Get to know them a little bit better. See what they are about.
• I personally hate talking on the phone in a "getting to know each other" phase. Sounds like a phone job interview. I like talking on the phone to friends, not interviewers. So I prefer to get all that interview crap out of the way first. Then once a friendship was established at the very least, work at creating something more
• Phone calls are not always possible because it requires two people to be free at the same time, so if you really want to get to know someone well enough to get to the point where you are interested in marriage then you must be able to communicate in other methods. But if they are not email people, you probably will have no shot at getting to know each other well enough as you want.
• I am attracted to people who are able to express themselves clearly, therefore email is like a good filtering tool for myself.
