Both srikhand and aamrakhand are consumed very widely in maharashtra and other parts of india. Srikhand is also packaged and sold in tins commercially just like ice creams. The dish is loved by all age groups, specially the children.

In maharashtra, shrikhand is eaten as a dessert item, although in gujrat it is treated as a side dish. In any form, it is widely consumed and is very popular among the people. Shrikhand is almost always served chilled. It os creamy and sweet like ice cream and more nutritious. Its a great side dish and in Gujarat it is eaten along with poori, a type of indian bread.

Srikhand is prepared by straining the yogurt. The yogurt is tied in a muslin or cheese cloth and hung overnight so that all the water drains away. Then it is mixed with cardamom and sugar and saffron. The mix is then churned thoroughly so that it gets a smooth and creamy texture. It is then chilled and served. It can also be mixed with fresh fruit pulps like mango and apple to give it a unique flavor. Amrakhand made by mixing mango pulp is particularly delicious.
