Puran Poli Bread Wheat flour gram jaggery

Puran Poli is also a dish from Gujarat and Maharashtra. It is similar to its south indian version called Holige. It is made from flour, jaggery and gram. The puran poli looks like roti and consists of roti stuffed with jaggery based stuffing.

The ingredients for making puran poli are as follows. You will require 300 gm yellow gram or channa, 300 gm jaggery, 1 tsp cardamom powder, 150 gm flour and ghee.

In a cooker, boil the chana dal for about 10-15 min, with lot of water. After the water has been drained, mash the dal to form a paste. Add powdered jaggery to it and mix well. Move the mixture over fire and cook it for some time and keep stirring. Let it cool and by the time start preparing the roti dough. Prepare chapattis and add the stuffing in the middle of each. Now roast the rotis they are brown from both sides. Serve with a tsp of ghee smeared over the puran poli.
