Narkeler Naru are laddus or dumplings made from coconut. Here Narkeler means coconut and naru means laddu in bengali. The most famous for these is Barisal in Bangladesh, although it is very widely prepared in West Bengal a well. Narkeler Naru is associated with various religious ceremonies in West Bengal. It is said that Lord Ganesha is very fond of the sweet. It is prepared during various festivals such as durga puja, ganesh chaturthi, basant panchmi, diwali, etc. It is mildly sweet and has the typical fresh taste of coconuts. Ingredients needed to make Narkeler Nadu are 1 ltr whole milk, 3 tbsp suagr, 2 cups of grated, dried and sweetened coconuts. Boil the milk in medium heat and let it cook till it gets a thick consistency. Next add sugar and coconut. Keep cooking and stirring till you get a thick consistency. You add add raisins to fro garnishing. Now remove from heat and take a handful of the mixture at a time and roll into balls. Let it cool and serve.
