Mishti doi Milk based

Mishti doi is a dessert item eaten in the western Indian states of West Bengal and Orissa as well as Bangladesh. Mishti Doi means Mitha Dahi in Hindi which translates to Sweet Yogurt in English. It is made from milk, yogurt and sugar.

Mishti Doi is considered a delicacy in the State of West Bengal and Orissa. It is one of the most well known Bengali desserts. In the state, which is credited to be the sweet capital of India and home to a variety of sweets, this simple sweet having such a huge popularity is quite amazing.

Mishti Doi is very easy to whip up. All you will require is 1 liter of whole milk, 5 tbsps of fresh yogurt and 250-300 gms sugar. Boil the milk on medium heat till it is reduced to 1/2 its volume. In a pan melt the sugar so that you get the caramel. Next, mix the milk with the caramel and add yogurt to it. Now put the yogurt mixed milk to set by storing it in a warm dark place in a container. When the yogurt is set, chill it. Mishti Doi is ready to be served.
