Indian Dal Moth Recipe

Dal moth is a spicy and crispy snack made from gram flour, asafoetida, turmeric powder, chili powder, moong, sugar, amchur, oil and salt. Its delicious and is popular as an anytime snack or serves as a very good tea snack.

Dal moth is a light and tasty snack which is very commonly available commercially in India. It is also exported to other countries. Dal moth is a sure shot item in any namkeen shop and is part of every namkeen company's product list.

To make daal moth, you will need 1 cup moth beans which are soaked overnight, , 2 finely chopped tomatoes, 1 chopped medium sized onion, 1 tsp turmeric powder, red chilli powder according to taste, 1 tsp each of garlic and ginger paste, 1 tsp of green coriander powder, 1/2 to 1 tsp of garam masala, 1/2 lemon, cooking oil and salt according to taste.

Soak the moth beans overnight in water. Heat the oil in a wide frying pan and fry the chopped onion till its light brown. Next add the ginger and garlic paste and fry for a minute or two. Now add all other spices and fry the mixture for 2 mins. Add moth beans to the spices and add salt. Close the lid of the vessel and allow the gravy to cook for 4 min on medium heat. Now add tomatoes to the simmering mixture and allow to cook for 2 minutes. Once the gravy become thick, remove from heat. Pour some lemon juice and garnish with coriander leaves.
