India is famous for its food but the Indian cuisine also has an array of drinks that are both unique and refreshing. Since India is a warm country with long summers, the drinks in the Indian cuisine tend to be cool and refreshing so as to beat the summer heat. Sharbats, lassi, chhachh, aam panna, thandaai, jaljeera, kala khatta are some of the most popular refreshing drinks of India. Nevertheless, tea is still the most popular form of drink in India. It is more popular than coffee though the latter is commonly consumed in the southern states. Indian masala chai is widely known throughout the world. Though alcohol consumption is widespread, drinking alcohol is not socially accepted in many Indian ethnic cultures. It is also forbidden to women in most cultures. But still there are many ethnic acloholic and other intoxicating drinks in India, the Goan Fenny being the most widely known. Apart from fenny, toddy, bhang, chhaang are some other regional drinks. Soma is an antient intoxicating drink who's recipe has been lost over the ages. Modern Beer like the lager and draught is also produced and consumed in India.
