Aam panna

Aam panna is raw mango juice mixed with salt and spices. It is a very tasty and refreshing drink. Aam Panna is one of the most popular drink in India and is very effective to beat the North Indian heat.

Aam panna is prepared from green raw mangoes. The raw mangoes or ambi in hindi are peeled and wash. These are then cut into small pieces. The mango pieces are put in a pressure cooker and boiled for 5 minutes. The mixture is then cooled and strained to get the liquid. Sugar,salt(preferably rock salt) and cumin powder is added to the liquid. A few mint leaves are mixed to it to give the refeshing flavor. Refreshing aam panna is ready. It is served with crushed ice to enhance its cooling effect. Ginger or saffron can also be added to improve the flavor of the drink.

Aam panna is renowned in India for beating the heat. It cools the body temperature and is an effective re hydrating liquid. Aam panna is very commonly given to persons suffering with heat stroke. With the rising health consciousness, aam panna is becoming more and more popular as a refreshing drink in India. Though it has mostly been a home preparation, aam panna has now become part of many commercial products lineup too.
