They are a delicacy of Maharashtra and Gujarat. Shakkar parey are brown colored cookies, made of wheat flour and sugar or jaggery. These are traditionally prepared during deepavali. The dish is an excellent tea time snack. It has a long shelf life and can be stored in air tight containers for a long time. It is a perfect snack for travels and picnics. ] Make a dough by mixing the flour or maida, ghee, sugar and water. Break off golf ball sized pieces from the dough and roll them into circular discs. Cut diamond shaped pieces from each disc and deep fry them in oil till they are golden brown. Move these over paper cloth to strain excess oil and allow them to cool. Later, store in a air tight container. Serve with tea or coffee.
