It can be had for snack as well but it is most commonly eaten during festivals such as navratras when cereals are not consumed by the fasting persons. Sabudana khichdi is made of tapioca or sago. Although it does not need any side dish to go with it, it is usually eaten with sweet curd. Sabudana is very filling and not very difficult to prepare. It also has a good shelf life and can be prefect while travelling or outings. The khichdi can be had for breakfast or as a snack. Traditionally, it is eaten during the periods of fasting when people do not eat cereals or anaaj. It acts a great substitute for wheat or rice for the fasting persons. To prepare sabudana khichdi, the ingredients needed are as follows. 1 cup sabudana or sago, 2 tbsp ground and roasted peanuts, 1/4 cup ghee or clarified butter, 2 chopped green chillies, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 tsp sugar, 2 tbsp grated coconut, salt. |
