Pooran poli sweet stuffed bread wheat flour gram

Pooran poli is a sweet dish from Maharashtra and Gujarat. A different version of Puran Poli is also eaten in the south where it is known as Holige. The dish is made of wheat flour, gram and jaggery. The flour is made into a bread known as Roti and then it is stuffed with jaggery among other things.

For making puran poli, the ingredients you would require are 300 gm channa dal, 150 gm flour, 300 gm jaggery, 1 tsp cardamom powder and ghee or clarified butter.

Boil the channa in a cooker for 15 minutes. make sure to keep the water content large. Afterwards, drain the excess water and mash the dal into a fine and smooth paste. Now add jaggery into the paste and put it over fire. Keep cooking till all the jaggery has dissolved. Now keep it aside. Make the roti by stuffing them with the sweet jaggery and channa mix. Next roast them on a tava. Serve hot with generous amount of ghee.
