Indian Institute of Management Kolkata was established in November 1961, in collaboration with the MIT Sloan School of Management, the government of West Bengal, the Ford Foundation and Indian industry. This IIM has grown into a mature institution with a global reputation, imparting high quality management education.
The Institute offers four major teaching programs, namely Post Graduate Program in Management (PGDM), Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Aided Management (PGDCM), Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM) and Fellow Program in Management (FPM). Students of these programs are continually exposed to scenarios that demand structuring of unstructured problems and proposing solutions to complex situations. The three year PGDBM is an evening program, to offer working executives the opportunity to gain insights into various facets of management. The FPM offers an opportunity for full-time advanced study and research at doctoral level in management and related areas.
During the recruitment process, companies come down to campus to conduct pre-placement talks. These talks give the students an idea about the recruiting organizations and opportunities available. In addition, the Summer Internship Program is also organized. It aims to widen the student's perspective by providing an exposure to real life organizational and environmental situations. Positioned between the first and second years, the program is the most effective aid in enabling students to relate management theory to practice.
IIMC has an online community of 2100 Students, Alumni and Faculty. They communicate via extranet, which is powered and driven by students at IIMC. The institute also provides high speed Internet access through a 2 Mbps dedicated line.
