Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya College of Arts and Science was started in 1964 as an affiliated College of University of Madras by Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya. The College is located 18 kilometers north of Coimbatore. In 1981, in recognition of its services to Higher Education, the University of Madras, on the recommendations of University Grants Commission, granted autonomous status to this College. The College is now affiliated to Bharathiar University, Coimbatore.
The College has 10 undergraduate and 6 postgraduate programs. The college has utilized its autonomous status and introduced innovative papers in both main as well as ancillary subjects. Inter-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary approach is evident in the Department of Cooperation, wherein two papers of Mathematics are offered. Similarly, Accountancy Paper is offered to the students of B.Sc. Mathematics. Training on computer awareness for all non-computer science students has been provided by the college. Attempts are also being made to institutionalize the remedial coaching in spoken and written English.
The participation of NSS volunteers in the Republic Day parade and the selection of the college NSS program officer as the best in the State speak volumes about the contribution of the NSS Unit. The broad areas of extension activities are health and education related. The students avail of the fitness center facilities provided by the Maruthi College of Physical Education. Facilities are available for sports and physical education which include a football field, running track, a cricket field, basketball, volleyball, and badminton courts. The college has a number of welfare programs such as Fine Arts and Music Club.
