Pioneer College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore is an aided institution of the Government of Tamil Nadu. It is an autonomous college affiliated to the Bharathiar University. The college is approved by the UGC and AICTE.
The college has a long-standing academic tradition of excellence in research and scholarship. This is coupled with the most advanced facilities for the pursuit of higher learning. Twenty two undergraduate and twenty one postgraduate programs are offered here. M.Phil and Ph.D programs are offered in seventeen faculties. Recently, the college has introduced several inter-disciplinary courses and other required life-oriented and skill-based certificate courses described as “Invisible Component” in all UG programs, which offer a range of course options to the student.
Apart from class-room teaching, students learn through projects, internships, field-trainings and seminars. The college gives certificates to students besides meeting their expenses in order to encourage them to participate in extension activities. The college works and plans its extension activities along with NGO’s. NCC and NSS are very active in the college. Many of the NCC cadets have participated in the Republic Day Parade at Delhi. Important outreach programs are put through the Population Education Club, Adult Education and National Literacy Mission.
The college library is fully computerized (LAN with 6 systems). It subscribes to several journals to help teachers and students to keep up with the latest literature. The Computer center is excellent and well established and runs three courses in addition to meeting other computer needs of the college. Five hostels accommodating 1000 students function under the care of a Warden.
