Lakshmi Narayanan Visalakshi College of Arts was established in 1991. It is affiliated to Bharathiar University. University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved this college. The college works on a dual system - the grant-in-aid and self-financing. The admission of students is according to University norms and Government guidelines. The college gives emphasis to research culture, which is evident from the large number of teachers involved in research studies.
The college offers undergraduate programs in History through Tamil and English medium, Tamil Literature, and English Literature. English is offered as compulsory language and students have the choice of either Tamil or Malayalam as second language. There are some Extra Disciplinary Optional Courses (EDOC)/Allied subjects offered as well. Diploma courses in Functional Tamil, Functional English, and Personal Secretary-ship are also offered in the college.
Methods of teaching are based on a pattern of lectures, quiz programs, assignments, group discussions, debates, and study tours. Evaluation is done on the basis of monthly class tests and university examinations. Faculty members are active in the field of academic activities. Some of the teachers have attended conferences and seminars at the national level.
Extra curricular activities of the college include NSS, NCC and Physical Education. Indoor and outdoor games, nature club, debate club, students magazine, cultural programs, quiz club, etc. are facilities available to the students. Personality development of the students is assured through various programs such as activities of subject associations, fine arts association, students’ union, physical education activities and use of departmental libraries.
