Karpagam Arts and Science College is an Autonomous college, affiliated to Bharathiar University and is approved by UGC and AICTE, New Delhi. The Institution was established in September 1995 with 47 students and 10 Staff Members. The sole aim of the institution is to impart instruction to the students in the latest theories and technologies. Today, the Institution has 2275 students with 180 staff members and educates the poor people from rural areas of Tamil Nadu. The college owes its existence to the Karpagam Charity Trust.
Undergraduate courses are offered in the fields of Computer Science, Bio-Chemistry, Catering Science & Hotel Management, Commerce, Computer Applications (B.Com-CA), Business Management, and Computer Applications. PG programs are offered in Business Administration, Computer Applications, Computer Science, Bio-Chemistry, Bio-Technology, and Software System (5 years-integrated). In addition, UGC sponsored Career Orientation Programs are offered in Social Work, Bio Technology, Electronics, Chemistry, and Commerce and Management.
The various departments run many funded research projects. Some of these are: “Treatment of textile effluent by Parthenium activated carbon absorption and bioremediation”, “Effect of high temperature stress on nitrogen fixation and nitrate reduction and their protein impact on characterization of chickpea”, “Exploitation of litter degrading fungi for paper bleaching”, and “Comparative Nutritional Evaluation of differentially processed Mucuna seeds and its utilization as feed ingredient for poultry”.
The Placement Cell invites leading corporate heads and organizes seminars on career related topics. Student representatives from each discipline are identified as the placement coordinator to coordinate with the Placement Officer in arranging campus placements.
