Coimbatore Institute of Technology is one of the most reputed and prestigious educational institutions in South India since 1956. The Institute, backed by world class research and development attained autonomous status in 1987. It is affiliated to the Anna University. It was founded in the year 1956 by V.Rangaswamy Naidu Educational Trust with the aim of disseminating knowledge in the fields of science, engineering and technology.
The Institution offers ten undergraduate academic programs, seven postgraduate programs, and a number of research programs in Engineering and Technology. In addition, undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Applied Sciences, Computer Technology and Computer Applications are offered. Evening part time programs in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering are also offered. Admissions to the various courses are made by the Government of Tamil Nadu. The candidates have to appear for an entrance examination.
The Students of CIT are among the best in their league. The Institute has a Placement and Entrepreneurship cell. The Cell co-ordinates the pre-placement activities of sophomore and junior students, and motivates aspiring students to pursue higher studies with facilities for preparing competitive exams like GATE, TOEFL, GRE, CAT, GMAT etc. A large number of national and multinational companies visit the Institute every year for campus recruitment.
The Institute gives due importance to extra-curricular activities. There are more than 15 clubs like The Debating Club, The Dramatics Club, The Space Club, The Music Club, and so on. All the branches of Engineering / Technology & Applied Sciences have their own associations which organize Technical meetings, symposia, etc. in their respective disciplines.
