Chikkanna Government Arts College, Tiruppur is located in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. It is affiliated to Bharathiar University. It was established in the year 1966, with the objective of providing higher educational opportunities to economically poor and socially backward rural people of Tiruppur. The college came into existence because of the generous donation of Rs.5 Lacs by Late Thiru Chikkanna Chettiar, an industrialist.
The College offers a total of 12 programs, which includes ten programs at the undergraduate level, one postgraduate program, and one certificate course. The Institution has a total student strength of 982, which includes 889 for aided courses and 93 for self-financing courses. The College offers B.A, B.Com & B.Sc Courses at the undergraduate level, which are aided by the Government of Tamil Nadu, besides four self-financing courses. The College functions in two shifts. Aided Courses are conducted in the morning shift while self – financing courses are held in noon shift.
The College has taken part in the extension activities at local community levels through the NSS and NCC wings. Programs on Community Development, Health and Hygiene Awareness, Adult Education and Literacy and Aids Awareness are organized from time to time. The College also organizes Medical Camps & Blood Donation Camps. NCC cadets have taken part in the Republic Day Parade at New Delhi, besides, the State and All India camps.
The college Library has a total collection of 35,500 books. The students have access to 25 computers of the state government installed in the campus under the Computer Literacy Program.
