Bharathidasan University, located in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, is a both nationally and internationally well-known public higher education institution. The city campus at Khajamalai houses the reputed Centre for Distance Education, Institute for Entrepreneurship & Career Development (IECD), Bharathidasan University Technology Park (BUTP), Academic Staff College and some other Departments. The University is supported by the University Grants Commission and has been nationally accredited with a five star status by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
The University has 35 Academic Departments, grouped under 12 Schools and supporting facilities. Academic programs in Arts and Science are offered through its departments and the affiliated colleges and institutions. Both undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses are available. Bharathidasan University was the first university in the country to offer B.Sc in Computer Science through Arts & Science colleges. Five-Year Integrated PG programs in Physics with specialization in Material Sciences, Geo-Sciences, Life Sciences, Bio-Medical Sciences, Media & Communication, and Economics are being offered.
The University is famous for the National Facility for Marine Cyanobacteria in the School of Life Sciences and Centre for Non Linear Dynamics in the Department of Physics. Advanced research and training are undertaken in all the departments and advanced centers, along with academic programs at UG and PG levels.
The University Library supports the teaching and research programs of the University Faculty, with supplementary support from the respective departmental libraries. The main library collection stands at 61,978 volumes. The Library subscribes to over 150 journals, about 60 of which are international journals.
