Anna University is a highly renowned affiliating University, which was established in 1978. It manages about 225 Self-financing Engineering Colleges, six Government Colleges and three Government-aided Engineering colleges located in various parts of Tamil Nadu. It offers higher education in Engineering, Technology and allied Sciences relevant to the current and projected needs of the society. Besides promoting research and disseminating knowledge, it fosters cooperation between the academic and industrial communities. It is situated in Chennai.
The constituent colleges of the University are: College of Engineering, Guindy, Alagappa College of Technology, Madras Institute of Technology, and School of Architecture and Planning. Undergraduate and postgraduate courses are offered in the fields of Aeronautical Engineering, Architecture, Automobile Engineering, Bio Technology, Bio-Medical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science And Engineering, Electronics And Communication Engineering, Fashion Technology, Geo Informatics, Leather Technology, Marine Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, and Textile Technology. Both full-time and part-time courses are offered.
The Educational Multimedia Research Centre of Anna University is one of the seventeen media centers established by the University Grants Commission to produce Educational Television (ETV) programs for the college students. Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC) coordinates the activities of the media centers. The center helps to upgrade, update and enrich the quality of education through Television and Radio. It also provides training in audio/video/multi-media production.
The University has a Health Centre with attached Inpatient Ward at the Main Campus. Consultation is free for all the students and employees. The Centre provides outpatient treatment as well. Para-Medical Personnel have also been deployed to handle emergencies.
