Alagappa Chettiar College of Engineering and Technology is a major college of engineering in Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu. Dr.R.M.Alagappa Chettiar founded ACCET on July 21, 1952. The college was taken over by the Government of Tamil Nadu in July 1966 from the Alagappa Chettiar Educational Trust. Since 2001, ACCET has been a constituent college of Anna University. The college has an active alumni association called as Alagappa Chettiar College of Engineering and Technology Old Students Association.
The Engineering courses that are available are: Computer Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Postgraduate courses are available in the fields of Optical Communication, Computer Aided Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Structural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Power Electronics and Drives, and Master of Computer Application. Each discipline of engineering has its association which organizes seminars and symposia on technical topics. Papers are presented at the meeting by student members, staffs and experts in the respective field. For first year students, humanities and science associations have also been formed.
The Placement and Training Cell maintains information regarding career opportunities for fresh graduates. It provides information about the availability of suitable employment opportunities and helps them to communicate with the prospective employers. The Cell arranges campus interviews for the final year students to get employment. It also arranges interviews for the pre-final year and final year students for the direct entry into the Indian Navy under the University Entry Scheme. The department also secures for the civil engineering graduates in Government departments like Highways Department and Public Works Department.
