Swami Vivekananda Memorial College is located in Jagatsinghpur, Orissa. It was established in the year 1963. The college is named after Swami Vivekananda, who was one of the most famous and influential spiritual leaders of the philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga. He was the chief disciple of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and was the founder of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission. Many consider him an icon for his broad outlook on social problems and countless lectures Vedanta philosophy.
The college is co-educational and imparts education in both Hindi and English media. It has been granted Autonomous status by University Grants Commission, New Delhi. Students are given the benefit of experienced teaching, courtesy of an impressive faculty and senior academicians on the advisory board. Bachelor’s Degree courses are offered in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Electronics, and Commerce.
The College has a Main Block, a Math Block, a Life Sciences Block, a Sanskrit Block, the Obul Reddy Auditorium Block, an Open Air Theater, a Library Block with 87,000 books, a Sports Complex and a Prayer Hall. The College also has a lush green turf Cricket Ground, Tennis Court and well equipped Gymnasium. Computer labs have online internet facilities. An evening college offering various programs is also fully functional.
Apart from academics, students have also made a mark in games and other extra-curricular activities. There are two N.S.S units in this college. The students organize and participate in N.S.S special camps, mega camps and educational tours.
