Stewart Science College, Cuttack is a co-educational exclusive Science College affiliated to the Utkal University. The College was established by the Christian Missionaries of Diocese of Cuttack under the Church of North India in July 1944. It has completed 62 years of academic activities and it continues to be a Science College. It is affiliated to Utkal University. Started as a pre-degree College, it rose to the status of Degree College in the year 1960. Honors classes were introduced in the year 1968.
The College is a grant-in-aid College. The College follows the annual pattern of examinations as per the provisions of the Utkal University. The College has been recognized by the UGC. There are nine departments, six in science and three in languages. The number of teachers is 42, consisting of 35 permanent teachers and 7 temporary teachers. The students have the opportunity of selecting honors subject from five different disciplines – Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany and Zoology. The admission rules allow a student to change from one discipline to another within a stipulated period after the commencement of the course.
Some teachers of the College are providing free consultancy to the society in the area of water pollution, environment pollution, health hazards, plantation and career counseling. The College has units in NSS and NCC. These extension units, in association with local NGOs, organized activities in the areas of health and hygiene awareness, blood donation camps, medical camps, AIDS awareness, environmental awareness, literacy program etc. Some teachers of the College are associated with important NGOs as active members.
