Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology is situated in Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Orissa. It was established in 1962 and is a UGC approved university. Being the second oldest agricultural university in the country, it is one of the best institutes in India for agricultural studies and allied research. The University came into existence on 24th August 1962 through an act passed by the Orissa Legislative Assembly inheriting the college of Agriculture. At present, the University has 8 constituent colleges. The University has separate wings for research, extension education and planning, monitoring & evaluation.
The College of Engineering and Technology was started in the year 1981, having 3 departments and subsequently the department of Architecture, Instrumentation and Electronics were added to it. In the year 1995-96, Post Graduate program on Computer Science was started. There are six departments at present. They are: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architecture, Instrumentation and Electronics, and Computer Science. The university offers undergraduate degree programs in all the above branches. In addition, a postgraduate program in Agriculture Biotechnology is also offered.
The University Library is the one of the best in the state. It has been developed with the assistance from U.G.C. and state government. The library has almost 70,000 volumes. Most of the collection is of engineering disciplines, along with Science and General reference. The library provides free Internet for students through a 64kbps broadband VSAT connectivity and in-house Linux-based networking. It helps students in preparing for various on-line tests for jobs.
