Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) made a humble beginning in 1992 through the establishment of an Industrial Training Institute with only 12 students. Within a short span of time, it grew to be one of the finest technical and management education centers in India. The institution has the unique distinction of becoming the youngest Deemed University of the country within six years of its commencement. KIIT has now opened up KIMS, which will focus on health education through its Medical College, Dental College and Nursing School.
KIIT is the youngest institution in India to receive accreditation by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) of UGC. The institute offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the fields of Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, Computer Sciences and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Information Technology, and Mechanical Engineering. Diploma courses are also offered in certain branches.
The institute has a Reading room and Library, which functions around the clock. Services provided to the users include Current Awareness Service (CAS), Reference Service, Documentation Service, Reprographic Service, Digital Library and Web Library. Through the web library, users can access 9000 International journals online. A high end Data Center houses an array of latest gadgets, including IBM Blade Servers, Storage Area Network, and Cisco core switch. There are separate hostels for boys and girls with 24 hours Internet connectivity in each room. Students also get the services of a Yoga instructor and a Health Club.
