Janata High School is situated in Bargarh, Orissa. It is a secondary school which is managed and run entirely by the Government of Orissa. The total number of seats in the school is 158. It is affiliated to Board of Secondary Education of Orissa under Government of India. It is one of the oldest and most prominent schools in the state.
The school has excellent infrastructure. Apart from strong educational focus, students are also encouraged to take up loads of extra-curricular activities available; these include cricket, hockey, football, badminton, volleyball, basketball. Proper coaching facilities are available for the students. This school also promotes education among weaker sections of the society (SC/ST community) by providing free hostel facility in campus and scholarship in education and sports. This is a unique feature of this school among the educational institutions in India.
The school is a blend of pleasing classrooms and vast open play grounds. It places an emphasis on discipline. The school attempts to provide a well-rounded education to students by allocating liberal time and resources for arts, crafts and games, an aspect sorely lacking in many Indian schools. Of late, the government schools in India rarely receive enough aid to invest in infrastructure, but Janata High School is an exception.
The students take part in a number of extra-curricular activities. The annual prize distribution ceremony sees one or more plays enacted by the students as well as other cultural programs. During the year, other smaller cultural programs take place in the school at various occasions.
