Government Ayurveda College, Balangir is a center of modernized study of Ayurvedic Medicine. It is affiliated to the Sambalpur University, Balangir. The college offers undergraduate degree courses in Ayurvedic Medicine. The college attracts students from various parts of the country like Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Uttaranchal, Assam, Manipur, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, and Pondicherry.
To be eligible for the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) course, candidates must pass 10+2 (Science) with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The total duration of the course is 5 ½ years, inclusive of one year internship. The admission to B.A.M.S. course is made according to the merit list drawn on the basis of marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology at the intermediate in science examination. The hospital attached to the college has a number of facilities like labor rooms, operation theatres, X-ray rooms, and laboratories. The pathology laboratory is well equipped with necessary instruments and chemicals. Bio-Chemical examination facilities are also available. Medicines worth Rs. 2.50 per day per patient are supplied. The medicines are prepared in the pharmacy attached to the college.
The college provides hostel accommodation separately for girls and boys. Adequate laboratory facilities have been provided for practical training of the students. Students are taught Panchkarma procedures like Nasya, Vaman and Virechan (therapies for kaph lodged in head & neck).
