Fakir Mohan College is an autonomous college located in Balasore, Orissa. Originally named Balasore College, Fakir Mohan College was established in 1944. Later, it was renamed Fakir Mohan College after the great Oriya poet and novelist, Vyasakabi Fakir Mohan Senapati. Conferment of autonomy in 1999 opened up new opportunities and challenges and the college rose to the occasion by capitalizing on the benefits of autonomy.
Undergraduate courses are offered in Economics, Education, English, Hindi, History, Mathematics, Oriya, Psychology, Sanskrit, Statistics, Botany, Chemistry, Computer science, Mathematics, and Physics. The college has postgraduate teaching facilities in Commerce, Mathematics, Physics, Political Science, and Oriya. The College provides a Joint Venture Computer Education Program in collaboration with Computer Point for the students of the college. It also has a study center of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), which facilitates lateral entry into various courses. The college plans to open more professional courses in Management, Information Technology, Bio-technology, Bio-informatics and Environmental Studies, and make them effective by developing the existing infrastructure.
Seminars, project work and field study are organized as part of the curriculum. Weekly seminars are held in each department. The students and staff are encouraged to develop their computer skills through computer literacy programs provided by IGNOU. The college has a state of the art Central Library and departmental libraries in P.G. Departments and self financing departments.
