Delhi Public School, Rourkela came into existence with the agreement between Delhi Public School Society, New Delhi and Rourkela Steel Plant, Rourkela. The Delhi Public School had a small beginning in the President's Estate in 1941 as Church High School. However, by the 70's, the school had created a name for itself in various fields. Currently, The Delhi Public School Society runs sixty-three school branches, both in India and abroad. It is a non-profit, non-proprietary educational body widely recognized for its progressive approach towards education.
The students of Delhi Public School have been at the forefront of academic achievements quite consistently. The second batch of 20 students of Delhi Public School, Rourkela wrote the class X examination conducted by the CBSE in March 1999 and all of them passed in first division.
The school encourages its students top participate in a number of extra curricular activities and sports. 'Bright Career', a Rohtak based organization conducts a scholastic aptitude test in the school for Class IV students every year. All India Radio, Rourkela specially invites students from DPS Rourkela to present a program to mark the occasion of special days, like Independence Day. This gives students a chance to prepare a program involving group and solo songs, discussion etc.
The school holds The Annual Day Celebration every year. The students stage colorful entertainment programs to mark the occasion. The school also holds an Annual Athletic Meet. The school has instituted the Annual Inter School Declamation Contest with the support of Rotary club of Roukela.
