Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Rourkela has been established by the Government of Orissa in June 2002. All Engineering, Pharmacy, Architecture and most of the colleges offering MCA and MBA degree programs are either constituent or affiliated colleges of this University. The University has 110 colleges, both constituent and affiliated, with around 58,000 students. The disciplines include engineering and architecture, business management and hotel management, computer studies and pharmacy. Several of these offer both undergraduate and post graduate studies.
The syllabi have undergone regular changes to update and modernize the course content. Facilities are available for the enhancement of the standard of the technical education, sponsored research, consultancy programs of industries, and R&D sections of national organizations. Semester system is being followed for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Campus interviews conducted by various recruiting agencies have created jobs for graduate and postgraduate engineering students. A number of students have been absorbed by various recruiting agencies through campus interviews.
The University Library is the one of the largest in the State. It has been developed with the assistance from U.G.C. and state government. The library has almost 70,000 volumes including Photostat and microfilms. About 70% of the total collection is of engineering disciplines and the rest is of Science, Humanities and General reference. The library provides free Internet for students through a 64kbps broadband VSAT connectivity and in-house Linux-based networking. It helps to students for various on-line tests for jobs, searching the research paper for their project works and thesis. The facilities are upgraded and expanded from time to time.
