Bhadrak College was established on 6th July, 1948 in Bhadrak town. At first, the college was affiliated to Utkal University for Intermediate Arts only. Intermediate Science classes were started in 1954. Degree courses in Humanities and Science were introduced in 1951 and 1960 respectively. The college was taken over by the state government in the year 1971. At present, the college has 22 departments and imparts Honors teaching in as many as 20 subjects.
The following subjects are available for undergraduate students in different streams: 3 Year Degree Course in Science (Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, and Mathematics); 3 Year Degree Course in Arts (History, Mathematics, Economics, Home Science, Oriya, Education, Political Science, and English). Postgraduate programs are offered in Economics, English, Political Science, Urdu, Chemistry, and Commerce. A self-financing course in Computer Science (Honors) is also offered.
For admission to undergraduate courses, candidates must pass in Higher Secondary orEquivalent Examination from an institution recognized by the Utkal University. However, for selection of Honors subjects, the candidate must have secured minimum 40%marks in the concerned Honors subject.
The college library has a huge collection of text books, newspapers, journals and periodicals. A health centre has been set up in the college and made operational in 2004. The health centre carries out intermittent medical check up of the students. A general insurance scheme called as students' safety insurance scheme is also in operation. The Youth Red Cross wing of the college provides financial support to the students, particularly to those coming from financially disadvantaged groups.
