Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College is situated in Sion, Mumbai. It was established in 1964. The college has an associated state of the art 1,416 bed hospital, known as "Sion Hospital." The youngest of the three major metropolitan teaching hospitals of Mumbai, this institute is one of the internationally recognized pivotal centers of modern health care. There are 100 seats every year for admission to the undergraduate MBBS course. The college offers a wide range of other courses as well. Postgraduate programs are offered in Anesthesia, Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Pathology, Forensic Medicine, Medicine, Surgery, Community Medicine, Pharmacology, Psychiatry, and Radiology. A number of Diploma courses and paramedical courses are also offered. Super specialty courses (MCH) have been started in a few specialized branches of medicine.
L.T.M.G. Hospital is credited with starting the first Trauma Care Center in India two decades ago. An ambulance equipped with a two-way radio provides emergency treatment to the patient at the accident site. The Trauma Ward handles more than three-thousand seriously injured patients each year. The Intensive Cardiac Care Unit has pioneered non-operative methods in treating patients with acute heart attacks. The Pediatric and the Neonatal Intensive Care Units have been doing fantastic work in the treatment of newborns and young children of Mumbai.
