Dr. Vaishampayan Memorial Medical College is located in Solapur, Maharashtra. Initially a private institution, this college was taken over by the Government of Maharashtra in 1974. The college was affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur for all the courses offered by it. Now the undergraduate courses are affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik and the postgraduate courses to Shivaji University, Kolhapur. The Medical Council of India recognizes this college.
At present the college has state-of-the-art facilities for undergraduate as well as postgraduate medical education. For MBBS course, admissions are strictly based on performance in competitive entrance examination, either Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (MH-CET) or All India Common Entrance Test (AICET). The total number of seats is 100. Each student is evaluated by an internal assessment and final university examination. The college also offers 16 postgraduate degree courses and 9 postgraduate diploma courses in various disciplines. These are: Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine, ENT, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Preventive and Social Medicine, Orthopedics, Anesthesia, and Radiodiagnosis.
The undergraduate hostel is situated 2 km from the main college campus, while postgraduate hostel is in the hospital campus. The undergraduate boys’ hostel complex has 4 different messes run by students on cooperative basis. All the hostels have adequate availability of visitors’ room, reading room, TV room and indoor games. The college has a qualified Physical Director. Playground is situated in the undergraduate hostel campus and is suitable for athletics, cricket, football, etc. Sports and recreation activities are managed by Students Association Body.
