Thangal Kunju Musaliar College of Engineering was founded in 1958 as the first Government aided Institution in the private sector in Kerala. The college is located at Kilikolloor, six kilometers away from Kollam. The college started with student strength of 120 and a faculty of six, offering courses in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering. At present the College has a strength of more than 2000 students with about 200 faculty members. The college is affiliated to Kerala University.

The following undergraduate courses are offered: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Production Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and Architecture. Postgraduate courses are offered in Industrial Refrigeration and Cryogenic Engineering, Structural Engineering and Construction Management, Computer Applications, and part time MBA.
An Industry-institution interaction cell functions in the college to facilitate greater collaboration n with the neighboring industrial establishments. A Career Guidance Cell works with the Training and Placement Cell to help students in getting jobs. It helps them in performing well in competitive examinations, interviews, and group discussions. Simulations of different competitive examinations like GATE, CAT are held to familiarize the students with these exams. The NSS and the student branch of IEEE also work in the college.
TKM College of Engineering offers separate hostels for boys and girls. Accommodation is available for 500 boys and 250 girls in the hostels. All the members of staff and students (including students of part-time classes) of the college are entitled to use the library.
