	T D Medical College
The Thirumala Devaswom Medical College was established in 1963 in the private sector, but was taken over by the government in 1972. It is situated in the suburban area of Vandanam, 9 km south of Alappuzha town.

The college offers the undergraduate degree in medicine, MBBS. Only 50 students were admitted in the first batch. From 1979, 100 students are being admitted for the MBBS course annually. Postgraduate and diploma courses are also offered here. PG programs are offered in the subjects of Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Anesthesiology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, Dermatology, and Pathology. Diploma courses are offered in Pharmacy, Medical Lab Technology, Radiological Techniques, and Nursing & Midwifery. Selection to MBBS course is by merit, on the basis of the Entrance examination conducted by the Kerala State Board of Entrance examinations. 25% seats are allotted on the basis of All India Entrance Examination.

The central library has more than 15,000 books and 8000 periodicals. Photocopy, video and Internet facilities are also available. In the premises of the college building are located the tennis, basket and volley ball courts. Facilities for playing cricket, foot ball and various outdoor sports are also provided. Table tennis and gymnasium facilities are also available indoors. There is a spacious auditorium all important functions in the college are held. The lecture halls are equipped with audio-visual aids.

The medical college has an associated hospital. This hospital now has a bed strength of 920. It is being used to train the undergraduate students, postgraduate students, and the house surgeons.
