Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences &  Technology

The Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology (SCTIMST) is situated in Thiruvananthapuram. It is an autonomous Institute under the administrative control of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The Institute has the status of a University and offers postdoctoral, doctoral and postgraduate courses in medical specialties, public health, nursing, basic sciences and health care technology.

For patient care, the institute has a 239 bedded hospital serves as tertiary referral center for cardio-vascular, thoracic and neurological diseases. The cardiac and neurological departments are fully supported in their program by other departments like anesthesiology, biochemistry, blood transfusion, and radiology. The recently started epilepsy care program provides precise diagnosis and appropriate counseling to patients with epilepsy. Some of the courses offered are: DM Cardiology, Diploma in Nursing, Neuro Technology, Advanced Medical Imaging, DM Neuroradiology, and DM Anesthesia.

The Biomedical Technology Wing (BMT Wing) is located about 10 kilometers away from the hospital campus. It has been instrumental in establishing a medical device industry base in India. Some of the commercialized technologies include the production of blood bag, blood oxygenator, hydrocephalus shunt, artificial heart valve, and concentric needle electrode. Testing services for biocompatibility and safety evaluation of biomaterials are offered. About twenty of these tests are accredited by Le Comite Francais d’Acreditation (COFRAC) of France.

The Achutha Menon Centre for Health Science Studies (AMCHSS) is the health sciences wing of the SCTIMST. The AMCHSS offers an international Master of Public Health (MPH) program, short courses and Ph.D. program catering to all South Asian Countries.
