SN Polytechnic

SN Polytechnic is located in Kottayam, Kerala. It was established with a view to transfer the latest technology to the under developed rural areas, and to train the rural youths in handling the modern implements. The numerous Community Polytechnics of the state evolve and implement various programs aimed at an integrated rural development of the rural areas. The activities of the Community Polytechnics have contributed significantly in improving the general standards of living in the adjoining rural areas.

The courses offered are in the fields of Wood and Paper Technology, Textile Technology, Polymer Technology, Instrument Technology, Commercial Practice, Architecture, Computer application and Business Management, Bio-Medical Engineering, Computer Hardware Maintenance, and Information Technology. Part time Diploma Courses are conducted in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering branches. The duration of the course is 4 years. For admission, candidates must score at least 60% for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together, and not less than 50% separately for Mathematics.

There is a Placement and Training wing under the Directorate of Technical education. Degree/Diploma holders in Engineering and Technology are selected for apprenticeship training in various Government departments and organizations as per the Apprenticeship Act of Government of India. Supervisory development programs are conducted for the final year students with a view to develop managerial skill.

In order to maintain the standard of education, the government deputes members of the faculty for training, to introduce them to the modern trends and developments in teaching. Under Quality Improvement Program, faculty members are deputed for higher studies in postgraduate and Doctoral level.
