Model Engineering College

Model Engineering College is situated at Thrikkakara, an idyllic spot in the fringes of Kochi, Kerala. Since its inception in 1989, under the Institute of Human Resource Development (IHRD, Government of Kerala undertaking), the college has made its presence felt in the state. On its inception, Model Engineering College was the first self-financing college under the Government of Kerala and was the first college affiliated to CUSAT.

Model Engineering College offers full-time courses leading to B.Tech degree of the Cochin University of Science and Technology. The disciplines in which these are offered are: Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Biomedical Engineering, and Electronics and Communication Engineering. Students who have passed the higher secondary examination (HSC), Kerala or equivalent and have secured at least 50% of marks are eligible for admission.

The Model Engineering College Library has a good collection of books and journals in the area of Electronics, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering and related subjects. The Library has approximately 16000 volumes of books and 60 journals. Books are classified according to Dewey decimal classification scheme. The library provides information services such as selective dissemination of information, reference service, and bibliographic service.

The Placement Cell of the college conducts sessions of grueling tests, mock interviews and group discussions. Soft skill development programs required for the corporate work culture are also part of the curriculum. Faculties from Management Training Institutes hold regular classes on personality development. Students of Model Engineering College have been placed in some of the best companies around the world, including NVIDIA, Yahoo!, Dell, Intel, and IBM.
