Medical College , Thrissur

Thrissur Medical College was established in 1982. It is located at Mulamkunnathkavu, 14 Kms from Thrissur Town. It is affiliated to the Calicut University. The college was granted permanent recognition by Indian Medical Council in 1991 and WHO in 1993. The entire district hospital working in Medical College, Thrissur was eventually utilized for training under graduate medical students and paramedical students in the different clinical disciplines

The college has clinical departments in Medicine, Pediatrics, Cardiology, Infectious diseases, Neurology, Forensic Medicine, Psychiatry, Radiotherapy, and Chest Diseases. The non-clinical departments of Anatomy, Biochemistry, Community Medicine, Microbiology, Physiology, Pathology, and Pharmacology are functioning in MG Kavu. The college offers the undergraduate MBBS course and post graduation in the field of Radio-diagnosis. 100 seats are also available in the paramedical courses.

Recently, there was a proposal by the Kerala Government to increase the number of MBBS seats from 100 to 150 every year. To achieve this, a team from the Medical Council of India held extensive interviews with the teachers and staff of the college. The inspection lasted two days, during which the team visited most of the departments in the college to assess the facilities there. The team has given its report to the MCI, and it will be placed before the ensuing Executive Committee of the Council. If the report is found satisfactory, the seats could soon be increased.

The college has excellent infrastructure. Separate hostels are provided for boys and girls. The campus library has hundreds of medical text books, along with international journals and periodicals. Free Internet is also available.
