Medical College , Kozhikode

The Calicut Medical College, Kozhikode was established in 1957 as the 2nd medical college in Kerala. It is affiliated to the University of Calicut. The institution has grown steadily during the last 49 years. The annual intake of undergraduate students has increased from 50 to 200. The consolidation of undergraduate medical education was achieved in the 1960's, and the 1970's witnessed the establishment of postgraduate medical education in the various branches of medical science.

The medical college offers 3 undergraduate courses: MBBS, B.Pharma and B.Sc Nursing. Postgraduate courses are offered in the fields of General Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine, Microbiology, Community Medicine, Anesthesia, Dermatology & Venereology, T.B & Respiratory diseases, Psychiatry, and Radio-diagnosis. Diploma Courses are offered in Clinical Pathology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Child Health, Orthopedics, ENT, TB & Chest Diseases (DTCD), Radiotherapy, and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Other than these, the college offers super-specialty courses and paramedical courses as well.

The college has a Learning Resource Centre (LRC), which is set up inside the Medical College library. The salient highlight of the Learning Resource Centre is the software based mirrored CD-jukebox, which can store the contents of hundreds of medical CDs. Multiple users, utilizing the high-speed interconnectivity for viewing the multimedia characteristic of medical procedures, can then seamlessly browse the contents. CDs are indexed based on specialized medical topics and can be accessed randomly. Two high speed Internet connections (1 Mbps) enable direct Internet access, required for net-based subscriptions such as Medline and Up-to-Date.
