Medical College , Kottayam

Medical College Kottayam (MCK) is one of the five government financed medical colleges in the state of Kerala. It started functioning in the year 1962. All the facilities and consultations, including major surgeries like open heart surgeries are provided absolutely free of cost at this institution. Being a hundred percent subsidized institution, Medical College Kottayam depends almost entirely on government grants for its budgetary support. It is among the best health care centers and training institutes in South India.

About one hundred candidates are selected for undergraduate training (MBBS) in medical science each year at this institute. In addition, there are 77 Postgraduate degree & diploma students, 30 Pharmacy Diploma students, 15 Medical Laboratory Technology Diploma students, and 8 Super-specialty students each year. A five year program in Nursing is also offered here. The total faculty strength is about 300.

The college also offers fellowships in various specialties including Surgery, General Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Social and Preventive Medicine, Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, and various paramedical courses. MCK has been successful in getting its graduates some prestigious fellowships, both in India and abroad.

The collegiate institutions attached to the college are Medical College Hospital (MCH), Institute of Child Health (ICH), Nursing College (CNK), Kottayam and Medical College Health Center, Ettumanoor (KMCHC). The facilities available in the Hospital include Blood Bank facility, Color Doppler, TMT, Holter Monitor, Haemodialysis, facilities for Endoscopic & laparoscopic procedures, Open Heart Surgery, specialized Pain Clinic, Computerized Pulmonary Function Lab, Specialized Trauma Care Centre, Neurosurgery, and Plastic Surgery.
