Mahatma Gandhi University

The Mahatma Gandhi University was established in 1983 as the fifth University in the state of Kerala. The University enrolls 150, 000 students on an average every year to its 410 Courses in graduate, post graduate and M.Phil/Ph.D. programs. The University has 183 affiliated colleges spread over five districts in central Kerala. Besides this, it has 21 teaching and research departments, six information centers and three study centers.

The following courses of study are available in the university: B.A. (3 Yrs), B.Sc. (3 yrs), B.Com. (3 yrs), M.A. in Arabic, Economics, English, Hindi, Malayalam, Sanskrit, and History; M.Sc.(2 yrs), M.Com., Bachelor of Computer Application, Bachelor in Business Administration, Bachelor in Business Management, L.L.B (5 yrs.), M.B.A.(2 Yrs), Master in Social Work, B.Sc .Nursing (4 yrs ), B.Tech, M.B.B.S, and numerous Diploma courses.

Some of the important disciplines in which research facilities are available are: Agronomy, Astrophysics, Behavioral Science, Bio-Chemistry, Bio-Sciences, Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Comparative Literature and Theatre, Economics, Education, Environmental Studies, and History. The University is in the process of setting up a dedicated Intellectual Property Facilitation Centre, in order to promote research, acquisition of IPRs and technology transfer.

The University has a web-enabled Central Library and 21 Departmental Libraries. The Central Library is linked to the U.G.C. sponsored INFLIBNET, enabling on-line subscription of over 2500 National and International research journals. The Employment and Guidance Bureau offers regular programs for students to prepare for the UGC, NET, CSIR and other competitive examinations. The NSS, National Cadet Corps, and University Students Union are very active.
